Pastor Jo is a 6th generation Texan – born and raised In Lubbock. But – a lot of summers spent in the Colorado mountains made Colorado seem like a second home. Meeting and marrying husband Dave made Colorado her real home. Dave is a 3rd generation native of western Colorado. Together the DeVinnys have raised three sons (David, Mark, and James) and too many cats and dogs to count. Dave runs the family business in Montrose and manages to keep the home fires burning no matter where home is at the moment.
Pastor Jo came late to the pulpit. After the DeVinny boys were safely out of the nest – Pastor Jo decided to go back to school and earn her undergraduate degree. Reading fiction and history had always been a passion – so she majored in English studies with a minor in creative writing. With that degree in her pocket – she was ready to begin work for her MA degree when God grabbed her by the scruff of the neck.
Much to her surprise – Jo found herself directing the Children’s Ministry Programs at First Presbyterian Church in Montrose. Then – two years later – much to her surprise – she began work toward MA degree in counseling and established a Christian counseling center at the Montrose church. Three years later – even MORE to her surprise – God grabbed her by the scruff of the neck again – and she began a 5 year M. Div. program at the Bethel Seminary in Minnesota. She was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in 2003.
Pastor Jo came to serve in Eckert in the fall of 2008. She found in this place a loving and generous community that has embraced her and delighted in Dave’s contributions. The folks of Eckert Presbyterian Church do truly try to honor the mission statement of our Lord: Love the Lord you God with all your heart and soul and mind; and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.
